What are the benefits of microneedling?

Candela’s Exceed Microneedling system is first FDA-cleared, dual-indicated medical microneedling device that is clinically proven to rejuvenate skin and reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and facial acne scars.

The Exceed Microneedling procedure stimulates collagen deposition for smooth, young looking skin. It improves overall skin appearance, texture, helps with pore size and hyperpigmentation (melasma). For best results an initial series of 3-4 treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart is recommended. For maintenance we recommend semi-annual or annual treatments.

If you never had microneedling before, request a complimentary consultation to determine if microneedling is right for you. You will be provided with a topical numbing cream.

How to Prepare for Microneedling

  • Arrive for your appointment with the treatment area being clean and free of makeup, lotions, creams or any other products.
  • Apply provided numbing cream at least 30 min to 1 hour prior to treatment. Keep out of eyes and mouth.
  • If you have history of cold sores, please inform your provider ahead of time as you may need to be premeditated with an antiviral medication.
  • Discontinue topical retinoids or other skin irritants for a minimum of 3-5 days prior to treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 2 weeks prior to treatment. Use SPF 30.
  • Avoid self-tanner, spay tan, or any tanning lotions for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • To decrease the risk of bruising and bleeding, avoid the following for 3 days prior to your treatment, unless unless medically necessary to continue: NSAIDs (aspirin, Advil, Ibuprofen).
  • If you are on any blood thinning medications such as for example Coumadin(warfarin) or similar, please inform us ahead of time and consult with your prescribing provider. Do not stop the medication.
  • Herbal supplements that increase the chance of blood thinning: Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Gingo, Garlic, Ginseng, Fish Oil.
  • Stay well Hydrated. Dehydrated skin will not yield optimal results.
  • Nutrition is also important. Proper wound healing requires proper nutrition.

What to Expect Immediately After Microneedling

  • Immediately after microneedling, the treated area will feel warm and tight, with mild redness, like after a sunburn. Some discomfort is possible, but most customers feel comfortable. The symptoms will gradually improve within 24-48 hrs.
  • For the first 5-7 days use gentle cleanser (AlumierMD SensiCalm Gentle Cleanser) and pat dry, do not rub.
  • The treated area should be kept as hydrated as possible for the first week post treatment. Reapply plain moisturizer as needed throughout the day.
  • Avoid wash cloths, harsh irritants, and scrubs until the treated area is completely healed.
  • Avoid exfoliating agents (retinoid acid, tretinoin, retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc) for 5 days.
  • Do not use makeup for 48 hours.
  • Your previous skincare routine can be resumed in 5 days or when you feel like your skin is healed.
  • Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil, Ibuprofen, or Motrin for 1 week.
  • Do not have other facial treatments for the next 2 weeks.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, saunas, hot yoga, hot tubs, swimming pools and excessive sweating for 48 hours.
  • Avoid natural sun exposure and tanning beds for 2 weeks post treatment. Gently pat in a sunblock of at least SPF 30 or higher at all times for at least one month following the procedure.
  • Do not pick at the treated area. It is imperative to let the area heal on its own. If the area is picked at and further interruption of the epidermal layer occurs, this can increase the risk of infection and other post procedure complications.
  • Stay well hydrated for the first 24 hours.
  • STAY OUT OF THE SUN and use Zinc Sunblock.
  • Contact your provider if you have any concerns about how your skin is responding to the treatment or is healing.
