Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are all neurotoxins that are widely used for anti-wrinkle injections. Neurotoxins work by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscle associated with the expression lines
Neurotoxins are most commonly used to treat:
- Frown or glabellar lines also known as the “11”
- Forehead lines
- Smile lines (crow’s feet)
- Bunny or nasalis lines
- Improve the look of heavy eyebrows (an eyebrow lift)
- Relax masseter muscle of the face to achieve some facial slimming/contouring as well as help with the TMJ or teeth clenching
- It is also used for neck bands/platysmal bands and along the jawline to achieve jawline lift
- Smile lift (to lift corners of the mouth)
- Improve gummy smile (more gums showing when smiling)
- Lip flip and lines around the lip area
- Chin wrinkles
- Underarm excessive sweating also known as axillary hyperhidrosis
Injections are a quick, easy and safe way to improve appearance and combat early signs of aging. The treatment muscle begins to relax within a few days with the full effects noticeable in 7-10 days. Dysport has a slightly faster onset of action compared to Botox or Xeomin. Results typically last 3-4 months although the duration may vary. Injections for treatment of underarm excessive sweating typically lasts 6-12 months.
The main distinction between Xeomin, Dysport and Botox is how they are manufactured. Xeomin is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, while Botox and Dysport are composed of a complex combination of proteins. Essentially, what this means is that Xeomin doesn’t have any additives, while Botox and Dysport do. Purer formulation of Xeomin reduces the chances of allergies and the development of resistance over time.
